Name: Timothy Drake-Wayne (Red Robin)
Canon: DC comics
Canon Point: Red Robin 19, while Tim's inside the Unternet (specifically page 12 as Lonnie is taking them to Metropolis.)
Age: 17
Reference: Here and here and here.
Setting: Tim comes from a version of Earth - creatively named New Earth. New Earth is fairly similar in geography to our reality with the addition of the Underwater continent of Atlantis, a few extra countries and cities such as Metropolis and Gotham City. The existence of Hyper Time, time-travel, multiple alternate realities and a few other things also set it aside from our reality.
New Earth has something else our reality doesn't: superheroes. The Superhero community is made up largely of metahumans, people born with the metagene which gives them superhuman abilities such as telepathy, flight, energy projection - even some physical changes such as tails and fur. There are also humans with access to magical abilities that don't come from a metagene. Of course, not everyone with a metagene or magic chooses to fight crime - some of them chose to use their powers for self-gain and evil.
On top of metahumans, there are also a large number of extraterrestrial races - Martians and Kryptonians only a couple - as well as Gods (New and Old) and immortal Amazonian warrior women and many more.
However, not all heroes have superpowers or magic or alien abilities. Some of New Earth heroes are just humans. Team Arrow and the Bat Family are both made up almost exclusively of non-metahumans.
Many heroes have come together to form teams. The Justice League, Teen Titans and Young Justice are just a few of many teams. The Justice League is a team of New Earth's strongest and most iconic heroes, they are Earth's first line of defense against all the weird and wonderful threats. The Teen Titans are a group of young heroes, many of whom are also sidekicks to older heroes, who have come together to fight crime. Young Justice was a team of young heroes originally composed of Impulse, Superboy and the third Robin - the 'core four' of the team later went on to become Teen Titans.
Gotham City is the most important location to discuss in regards to Tim's setting. Gotham is a city firmly in the hands of corruption, crime and villains that stretch from a psychotic clown to a woman with the ability to control plants. Gotham is also the birthplace of Bruce Wayne, who following the murder of his parents, became Batman and stepped in to protect the city from the criminals and villains that just kept evading the police, worked under their radar, or worse, worked with them. Batman has worked both alone and had a number of partners - Robins.
Tim was Robin three of five and didn't lose his parents until after taking up the mantle, unlike his predecessors. He was the boy who figured out who Batman and Robin were, who made Bruce realise Batman needed a Robin. He was trained by Batman and many others to become more than just the normal geeky kid from Gotham Heights with exceptional intelligence and detective skills. Just like Bruce, Tim doesn't have any powers - but he's damn good at what he does. He might not be Robin any more, but he continues to fight for Gotham and the world. He has worked as a member of Young Justice and the Teen Titans, proving you don't need to be meta to be a superhero.
There is also the existence of a virtual world called the Unternet. Created by Dr.Sivana using technology based on the Rhodomagnetic Spectrum, the "Unternet" is an undetectable network system used by the criminal underworld. It is used by villains as a means to meet up and share tech, ideas and sometimes plan a large attack on heroes. The Unternet was later corrupted by Darkseid, but when he was defeated during the events of Final Crisis, the villain Calculator took over and then a man named Viktor Mikalek took control and brought its users together again.
There have been a large number of events that have shaped New Earth. Naturally, not all of them are important to Gotham City or Tim himself. Three of the most important events that have occurred and had large impacts on Tim's setting are:
War Games: Batman developed a scenario to unite Gotham's underworld under one man, Matches Malone, who just happens to be Batman himself. Stephanie Brown finds plan after being fired from her position as Robin and in a desperate attempt to regain Batman's trust, she implements the plan, not realising that Batman and Matches Malone were the same person. She assembles all the gangs in one place and when Matches doesn't show up, it starts a massive gang war that allows Black Mask to seize control of Gotham's criminal. In the aftermath of the event, vigilantes were made criminals for a year and Batman was caught on camera and stopped being just an urban legend. Stephanie Brown also 'died'. It is later revealed her death was faked by Dr Thomson to teach Batman and the youth of Gotham how dangerous the life was.
Infinite Crisis: A multidimensional event that brought characters from different worlds in the multiverse to Earth. Their plans eventually lead to the death of Conner Kent at the hands of the Superboy from Earth Prime (who was later imprisoned by the Green Lanterns) and the merging of all realities into New Earth. This allowed for a number of characters to be brought back from the dead - such as Jason Todd - as well as some small changes to be made to the history of some characters.
Final Crisis: The New God Darkseid plotted to ovethrow reality. He released the antilife equation and took control of almost the entire population of Earth. During this event, Batman mortally wounded Darkseid but was hit by the villain's Omega Beams and apparently killed (actually lost in time). Darkseid is later defeated and the world saved by Superman and the other heroes. It is only when Tim, the only person to believe Bruce wasn't dead, finds proof of his survival, clues that Bruce has left throughout time, that he is saved and brought back to the present.
Personality: Tim has gone through a lot and his experiences throughout his time as Robin have changed him, his personality, his conviction, and his beliefs irrevocably.
Tim has never been the physically superior Robin – when he started he lacked the streets smarts to compete with his predecessors and while he has gotten physically stronger, Tim’s true strength lies in his intelligence. Out of all the Robins, Tim is by far the most intelligent and cerebral. He is a natural born detective and was able to determine Batman’s secret identity by himself at the age of nine. His strength lies in doing the brain work of the vigilante job – though he wouldn’t turn down a chance to be in the thick of things. Tim’s intelligence and detective skills have lead him to possibly surpass Batman – Ra’s al Ghul even called him ‘detective’, a name he had previously reserved for Batman, after Tim brought down his global network for the League of Shadows and successfully protected Bruce’s Legacy.
Tim is a driven, determined individual. Anything he starts, he will see to the end, no matter what it takes – he doesn’t know how to give up, especially if he knows that he has the skills to draw on to achieve his goals. Along that same line, however, Tim is driven by a fear of failure. Ever since first donning the Robin suit, he has feared failing the legacy he stepped into, but also failing the people he stands to protect, Batman, and of course, himself. Tim sets himself high standards and he does not plan to fail. To this extent, Tim is always planning three steps ahead and multiple back-up plans – he would say he doesn’t plan for the future, but that would be a lie, just as saying he will one day give up the cowl. If he fails, and especially if people or hurt or killed as a result of that failure, Tim blames himself, and he carries the guilt; oftentimes, Tim has to be convinced that something isn’t his fault before he’ll let the guilt slide, and even then it is always a burden he will carry.
As comes standard with the Bat name, Tim has a strong moral compass. He cares about innocent lives and though he may hunt down criminals, it is always to bring them to justice by the law, not by his hands. Tim’s first instinct is not to kill criminals and villains, but to take them down and allow the law to handle them. That said, Tim had made compromises lately and has had a hand in the deaths of more than one person and he regrets this and carries it as a heavy burden. Still, it’s fair to say that he thinks sometimes it would be better if some villains were just killed rather than allowed to return to the world over and over again – a problem made worse by the possibility of resurrection.
Tim has always had the ability to detach himself emotionally from a situation in order to gain more insight and do his job better, but this has been tested by the recent string of loss in his life. Following the loss of many of his loved ones, he has stopped seeing the world in stark black and white, but in shades of grey. Tim is aware there is a line, but he is no longer afraid of blurring it a little. In fact, while he resented having Robin taken from him, Tim knew he needed to become Red Robin to keep from tainting Robin, to allow him to cross lines someone carrying that mantle couldn’t. He is also not always able to control his anger and his growing need for vengeance that did not exist when he first became Robin – often his feelings will be taken out on some poor thug in the wrong place at the wrong time, and sometimes it will cloud his judgement.
He has also always been a bit of an introvert and a loner, who values his independence – a trait made worse in recent years. Despite working on teams, Tim has always preferred to be somewhat separate from the main body of the team. Most times, he has been leader of the teams he has worked on, and he is good at being a leader – his intelligence and skills as a tactician make running a team easy for him. Still, he has remained largely on the sidelines emotionally, and i t is more than fair to say that Tim is no longer very good at making and keeping friends, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have friends. He has only allowed a few people to get truly close to him – people who he is fiercely loyal and protective of. Arguably, the people he is closest to are Superboy and Nightwing, who he almost trusts unconditionally and is more likely to admit his problems to. When he makes true bonds with people, they are deep bonds that can sometimes be detrimental to him. Detrimental because when he loses those closest to him – family and friends – it breaks him down.
Tim’s loss has made him more emotionally vulnerable, and thus more determined to hide his feelings. He has always preferred to keep his problems to himself and often has to be pushed to share his concerns, even with his best friend who he trusts above anyone else. For a short while, the loss also made him desperate and his loneliness almost lead to him being seduced by Ra’s al Ghul to exchange a life of servitude for the chance to bring back his loved ones. He also tried to clone Superboy back to life because he needed something back. Still, he was able to also see through his grief and to work to find proof of Bruce’s survival following the event of Final Crisis – and he was deeply hurt by the responses from his friends and family who believed he was lost to grief.
His line of work has always called for more secrecy than other heroes, and this is something he has resented as he has grown closer to people. Tim does not like lying or secrets, no matter how much he knows they are required. They have always caused tension when it comes to his life out of the mask – he never enjoyed lying to his father and doesn’t enjoy lying to his friends and has never been able to hold down a girlfriend. Since taking on the Red Robin persona, Tim’s social skills have took a real beating – while he can put on a happy face and he can still be Tim Drake around his few friends who don’t know his secret or in the public eye, his choice to leave school and dedicate himself to Red Robin and to his position in Wayne Enterprises has meant he has become all business. Tim has even admitted that Tim Drake and Tim Wayne are two separate people, leaving him with three personas. So, he hates lies, but after years of lying, it’s easy for him to use them.
Thanks to the emotional strain and dive in his social skills, many of Tim’s relationships, long term and otherwise have become somewhat strained. While he is still a part of the Bat Family, for some time at the start of his career as Red Robin, Tim became almost completely detached from them and he has remained somewhat separate from them. Lately this has improved and Tim has allowed relationships with members such as Dick and Bruce to return to something closer resembling what they had before, but the added variables and the changes to their lives has certainly put strain on these relationships. Outside of the mask, Tim has very few friends anymore; he is being swallowed by the cowl and is no longer the cheerful geek. He has lost many of his friends to his secret life and cannot make new ones – there are few people who he is close to that do not know his secret.
Tim is, in actual fact, somewhat scared of what he has become and how much more he will change. He always promised himself he wouldn’t become closed off and obsessed like Bruce, but he no longer knows if there is another way to handle the life he has. Tim is slowly beginning to embrace who he is now and to start putting the period of his life, however short, where he lost sight of the real picture, behind him. He is beginning to enjoy what he does again, even if it has become an obsession.
EXTRA: Upon arriving in Tu Shanshu and learning to nature of the world, Tim won't really be all that surprised. In fact, he may for a short period of time believe he is still in the Unternet, which can be shaped by it's users. Once he discovers otherwise, he may be a little surprised but not from disbelief - more than he was able to be pulled from a virtual world into this in-between world. He will also be a little irritated because he was pretty busy trying to bring a criminal network down. So you can bet he's going to be working hard to find out everything he hasn't been told about the place as well as a way home. And when he finds out about the criminal state of the city, he's going to do exactly what he does back home and fight for the innocent people, to keep the city safe.
Appearance: As Unternet Red Robin. As Tim Drake.
Abilities: Despite not being a meta, Tim is not your ordinary human.
Peak Human Conditioning: Through continuous intense training, Tim possesses peak level strength, stamina, speed, reflexes and agility for a teenager. He can lift twice his body weight and can also use a grapple without injury thanks to intensive workouts. He is also a master acrobat, though not quite on the same level as Dick Grayson.
Martial Arts Master: Tim has mastered various martial arts including Ninjustu, Karate, Judo, Aikido, Jujitsu and Bojutsu, his preferred method of fighting (with his staff). He has learned from many people including Batman and Lady Shiva and absorbed and adapted their styles into his own. He is able to work out an enemies weak points in moments and take advantage of them.
Genius Level Intellect: Naturally smart, Tim excels in computer science and is also a master detective. He has figured out the identity of various superheroes by himself. Coupled with his skills as a strategist, he is also able to stay steps ahead of villains as well as be able to think on the spot. It has been said that he is smarter than Batman himself, and suggested that he possesses far beyond normal mental concentration and mental focusing ability that allows him to think and calculate beyond most human beings. Tim also has sound almost-degree level knowledge of various sciences including biology, engineering and genetics, and techniques associated with them.
Tim is also a skilled escape artist and also speaks several languages beyond English, including Cantonese, Russian, Spanish and German.
Inventory: Unternet costume with all the utility belt trimmings (including grappling gun, smoke bombs, first aid kit, zip tie handcuffs), his collapsible staff and his phone/PDA.
Suite: Metal district: 3 floors. Tim is from a large, modern city and he's a bit of a technophile, so would be better suited in a sector of the city where technology is a little more accessible and the surroundings a little more like home.
In-Character Samples:
Third Person: A routine night was a welcome break from, well, everything. Since Bruce's disappearance everything had moved so fast he'd barely had a chance to slow down, never mind just have a routine night patrolling Gotham.
He didn't have to concern himself with searching to prove that Bruce was still alive, didn't have to watch his back for fear of Ra's being right there, or even focus on his Hit List. He was no longer so torn up inside over the loss of friends and family - Conner was alive, Bart was back, Steph was alive, he'd proven Bruce was alive. The weight of the world wasn't so much on his shoulder any more, he could let loose, relax a little.
Well. Relax as much as a member of the Bat family did.
It was just a normal night, watching Gotham from the rooftops, keeping ears and eyes open to the sounds of the city. As he perched on the edge of a rooftop, watching as below him two men began following closely behind a lone girl, he smiled a little to himself. For the first time in what felt like too long, he could do something as simply as KO-ing a couple of thugs and save a girl instead of being a big damn hero. And that felt right. It felt good.
The smile was gone from his face as he watched with narrowing eyes, brain working fast to calculate at least five ways the men below him would attack and five matching ways to take them down. On top of that he quickly determined the wind speed and direction and all the other little details he was going to need.
Then he was swinging from the rooftop and swooping down to the alley where the poor woman was seconds away from being accosted.
Yeah. Everything felt like it was going to start getting better, finally.
Network: [text]
[Maybe he's being overly cautious, but Tim isn't entirely sure if he's still in the Unternet and this city is just some trick, and so he chooses to make his first entry on the cities network text only. His decision is further bolstered by the uniform stowed away - the uniform which makes it harder to tell just where exactly he is. Still, Tim knows how to at least find if he has any allies in this unknown city.]
Well. That was a pretty rude awakening. I'm not used to waking in the tub surrounded by strangers. I mean, sure the tour of the city was different and the welcome pamphlet is a nice touch. But I'm not a huge fan of waking up in some fantasy movie and being told I'm going to fight some big bad evil. I'm not really the hero type.
Heck, I haven't even had my morning coffee.
Oh! Name's Todd Richards. Don't suppose anyone here has heard of Star City? Or knows where to get that coffee? [That should pique the interest of anyone familiar with his dimension. And the name should alert any close allies...]

Suite: Metal district: 3 floors. Tim is from a large, modern city and he's a bit of a technophile, so would be better suited in a sector of the city where technology is a little more accessible and the surroundings a little more like home.
